How we evaluate AI consulting firms for manufacturing

Seven criteria, applied the same way to every firm, with every fact traced back to a source you can open.

A ranking is only useful if you can see how it was made. These are the criteria behind every comparison on this site, and the rules we follow when we apply them.

The criteria

  1. Manufacturing depth. A dedicated manufacturing practice with published, named work in plants or factories.
  2. Strategy and roadmap. Helps leadership decide where AI pays off first, and in what order.
  3. Builds and runs it. Engineers who build, deploy and operate the system, not only advise on it.
  4. Plant-floor data. Works with machine, sensor, MES, SCADA and historian data on the shop floor.
  5. Office operations. Automates the work around the plant: purchasing, supplier and customer mail, phones, scheduling follow-up.
  6. Mid-market fit. Engagements sized and priced for manufacturers with roughly 50 to 2,000 employees.
  7. Published pricing. Publishes prices, rates or package sizes before you talk to sales.

Evidence we accept

  1. The provider's own published pages: practice pages, service descriptions, case studies and pricing, when published.
  2. Named, public case work: a named manufacturer or a specific plant outcome that the provider or the client has published.
  3. Reputable third-party reporting: analyst coverage, trade press, regulatory filings and the client's own statements.

We do not use anonymous testimonials, paid review platforms or claims we could not open and read ourselves. When a provider does not publish something, such as pricing, we say "not published" rather than guess.

How the ranking is decided

Rankings reflect fit for the most common situation we hear from manufacturers: a mid-sized company with a working plant, a lean office and no data-science team, that wants measurable results within a year. Each pick is phrased as "best for" a specific job, because the right firm for a global automotive supplier is rarely the right firm for a 200-person job shop.

Within that frame, firms are ordered by how well their published offer and evidence match the criteria above. A firm can rank lower here and still be the right choice for you. Every profile has a "choose another option if" note for that reason.

Keeping it current

We re-check every provider at least once a quarter. Each page shows its last update and a log of material changes. Sources show the date we accessed them, so you can tell how fresh a fact is.
